Nicky Jaques is a saxophonist specialising in jazz performance. She graduated form Nottignham University in 2007 with a BA in music and in 2008 she completed a graduate diploma in jazz at Birmingham conservatoire. Based in Hereford and working in the Midlands she enjoys a busy musical life, gigging and teaching, writing and playing her own compositions and working as a project manager for the music pool.
Encompassing a broad range of skills on saxophone and clarinet supported by a rich academic understanding academic of music, she plays anything from blues and swing to bebop, Latin, Brazilian, funk, soul and contemporary jazz music. Nicky was recently winner of the Rising Star prize at the East Midlands Young Jazz Awards 2008.

Nicky writes and plays her own music which is honest, melodic and groove based. Drawing on influences from jazz, classical, world, electronic and acoustic sounds it reflects her wide passion for all sorts of different music.
In 2008 Nicky was awarded the Jazzorg/Worshipful Company of Musicians composition prize (Small band category) for her composition ‘Empty heads.’
